Some abilities and wonders give apostles extra charges. Seems like some of them would be worth a mention?Īlso, a note about apostles/evangelizing (might be too specific for beginner's guide): the in-game description definitely does say that an apostle must have 2 remaining charges to evangelize, but right now that seems to be bugged (seems to require all of the apostle's charges instead of 2 charges). Also, city-states (and suzerain bonuses) can be ridiculously powerful in civ 6. In the amenities section, might point out that it's often better to trade excess luxury resources to another civ for one of its excess lux goods (and thus keep your citizens happy) than to stagnate growth. Choose between 19 (or 20 after 90 days, or with the pre-purchase Aztec civ) Leaders / Civilizations, each with their own Unique Leader Agendas, Leader Bonuses. Suggestion: you pointed out that anything more than 1 copy of a luxury item is superfluous and only useful for trade. Besides the impossibility of the task of trying to write a concise beginner's guide that explores every aspect of the game, it's just outside the scope of what I was trying to accomplish.Īnyhow, thanks for reading, and happy civ'ing ) After learning these things, I can pretty reliably crush the AI on Prince difficulty, and win in whatever fashion I please.įeedback is always welcome, although I'll state up front that the intent here isn't to min/max or provide the "optimal" strategy for all scenarios. From here, you can read up on more advanced strategies, or experiment and see what works best for your play style. My hope is that this provides a foundational strategy that new players can use to avoid frustration from losing on super easy. I tried to make it "new to the series" friendly where I could maybe I succeeded, maybe if you're in that boat you can think of things I didn't. This is probably a bit more oriented towards someone who knows Civ pretty well but is struggling with 6, just because that was who I was when I wrote it. 3,000 words (plus a few screenshots) later, and I've collected them for the beginners among you, in the hopes that they help. I felt that there were a lot of things that I didn't know my first half-dozen games that made things a heck of a lot easier once I figured them out. I typically play on the middle difficulties, and when I started Civ6 I got my butt kicked even when I set the difficulty pretty low.

I've been writing articles about the Civ series for a while now, so you may have seen my name on other stuff for Civ5 or BE.
